After years of searching for the right creative outlet, Emily picked up a Canon AE1 for the first time in 1991. She quickly found herself hooked, and during her teenage years, the darkroom became her refuge.
As a lover and fighter of the rock ‘n’ roll cause, she found herself drawn to photographing concerts. While studying Art History at UMASS Amherst, she was more often found shooting on stages than studying in classrooms.
In 1997 she moved to New York City. A chance meeting with photographer legend Duane Michaels gave her a mentor, and he sent her on a path that over eight years and a thousand assignments later, she’s still following.
To escape her hectic Manhattan lifestyle, Emily flees the city each summer to teach photography and shoot the outdoors at Beam Camp, an arts-based camp in New Hampshire.
Emily’s philosophy, in a nutshell: “There are three things that inspire me to take pictures: someone with a good story to tell or share about themselves, striking compositions and beautiful light.”
